The People’s Reviewer

The People’s Reviewer, the new hybrid social media campaign we’re running for Volkswagen is well under way.
In case you haven’t been following, we’ve been looking for a new type of car reviewer who will put the Volkswagen Tiguan through its paces. We had over 1000 people apply via YouTube video auditions and email entries. From that long list we selected nine contestants and they’ve had one week each in the Tiguan to try out its many features and record a short video review. Each video is voted on by the public and the ultimate winner will drive off with the Tiguan.
The journey has had us meet some crazy characters like Dirk the artistic knitter/busker/crime novelist with outsized hair and Johnny, a gregarious import/exporter who towed a Winnebago plus a van and two mini race cars all in one go. To help all the contestants build followers and win votes we’ve taught them how to tell their stories using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.
We think it’s a great example of a campaign that combines social media with an off-line experience while bolstered by a traditional media spend. It continues through the rest of the summer. Here’s a bunch of links to all the places you can follow the action, so get involved!
